The Orpheus of Amsterdam
The composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck is sometimes called the 'Orpheus of Amsterdam', an honorary title for his almost superhuman musical qualities. Between 1577 and 1621 he was an organist at the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. He was the composer of many vocal and instrumental works of an exceptionally high standard. This new program by The Royal Wind Music reflects the breadth of Sweelinck's very varied oeuvre. It consists of four blocks, each block containing a vocal work and two keyboard works.
Two contemporary reflections on Sweelinck have been included. A new composition by Aspasia Nasopoulou, Dance for Orpheus of Amsterdam, and an improvisation, Chain Reaction. The latter is a game in which the players inspire and imitate each other, respond to each other, and contradict each other with contemporary recorder techniques. The end of the improvisation is based on the theme of Mein junges Leben hat ein End, one of Sweelinck's most popular works.

The Orange Tree Courtyard
The Cathedral of Seville is a gigantic building, even by today's standards - in 1401, the ecclesiastical authorities of the city decided to build an enormous church instead of the former mosque, which would continue to amaze future generations, and it is one of the largest churches in the world.
From the former mosque, the magnificent tower "La Giralda" has remained, as well as the courtyard planted with orange trees, which also gives its name to the new CD of The Royal Wind Music.
